Wordzor 1.2.0 released, now on Android Market

Android Market is now offering paid apps, and you can pick up Wordzor for 99 cents. Wordzor and Wordzor Lite are now at version 1.2.0. This update includes a major facelift with fancy new graphics. Check it out!

Wordzor 1.2.0

Wordzor Lite 1.1.0 released

You spoke, and I listened! Wordzor Lite 1.1.0 is a major update that includes several new features and fixes:

  • New 6x6 or 8x8 grid option - The 8x8 grid made the letters too small for most people, even with the zooming and not having to touch the exact next letter. The 6x6 grid option gives you a smaller grid with bigger letters. The zoom window and other features are still there, but the letters are easier to touch. This is much better for casual playing and quick games. The 6x6 grid's bombs start with a timer of 6 instead of the 9 used by the 8x8 grid.
  • Better random letters in easy mode - Easy mode wasn't very easy because of the poor letter distribution. It was based on getting a certain percentage of vowels (There was a 50% chance of having either a vowel or consonant in the old Easy mode). The new Easy mode picks letters based on the letter frequencies in the English language - more specifically, it's based on the letter distribution in Scrabble® letter tiles. This gives you more E's, R's, T's, etc, and less X's and Z's.
  • Medium mode now included in Wordzor Lite - because some people liked the old random letter distribution and I didn't want to alienate those fans, the old Easy mode is now the new Medium mode. Now you can pick between Easy or Medium in Wordzor Lite.
  • Letter scoring fixes - with the Easy mode fix, I made the rarer and harder letters worth more points. I'm going to post a breakdown of the letter scores soon.
  • Bug fixes - fixed a few crashes (Force Closes, as they're known in the Android user community) and some other issues. Please report any bugs you find!

Wordzor demo at YouTube

Here's a demo I put up on YouTube that shows how to play Wordzor:

Wordzor Lite released!

Wordzor Lite was released onto the Android Market on Feb 12. The Lite version of Wordzor is a free demo. It has Easy mode and the Normal game type. The full version will be available from the Market as soon as Google opens the floodgates for paid apps.

The release wasn't without incident - I soon noticed comments mentioning crashes and investigated. It turns out that the game crashed when you turn off the phone's screen and then try to resume the game. I fixed this and released version 1.0.1 on the 13th. The reviews have been more positive since then.
